June 26th, 2009- Day Two
We got up around 7:00 and went downstairs to enjoy the wonderful Continental Breakfast at Holiday Inn Express in Childress, TX. The kids were fascinated there was still a train parked outside of our hotel. We packed our things in the car, filled up on gas and we were on the road again by 9:10. The drive was beautiful, winding through country side and open fields. We drove through a lot of small towns and that was fun slowing down to 30 mph at some times. The kids did pretty well managing in the car and surprisingly did not watch many DVDs. Mom/Nina would turn them on, then they would want to do something else like read books or color. We stopped in a small Texas town before Amarillo for a bathroom break and leg stretch. Our next stop was Tecumcari for lunch, and guess what we made it there with just one more quick bathroom stop! Amazing! When we arrived in Albuquerque, we had to drive a ways to get to Kelly & Kevin's house on the west mesa, near Rio Rancho. The kids were
excited to get out of the car and play with Madeline & Molly! We visited for a while with Kevin & Kelly, then we drove to Jason's Deli and had dinner. On the way back to their house, we rode in Kevin's Suburban with 6 kids: Molly, Jetta, JC, Jillian, Julia & Madeline. Kelly and I rode in the front with the kids in the 2 middle rows. Kevin rode in the storage area with his fingers in his ears, truly a funny site to see! Jeff came over to Kevin & Kelly's house to say hello and visit with the kids. He drove back to his hotel, since he had an early tee time the next morning (7:10 am). We stayed up and watched "Mall Cop," then we headed to bed. Jillian, JC & Jetta all shared a room with me, while Madeline & Julia stayed in Madeline's room. I fell asleep grateful we only traveled with 3 kids in our car than 6, like in the Suburban! Wow, loud!!
